International Credit Union Day (ICU Day) is Thursday, October 21, 2021. In the US, so many of us take access to basic financial services for granted. We have banks and credit unions, mobile apps, online banking, ATMs, and all of the best digital conveniences to handle our banking needs. However, in many parts of the world, people have no access to safe, reliable places to save and borrow money. It is difficult to build a little bit of wealth, start a micro business, or even pay bills when you don’t have access to a trusted financial institution. Credit unions fill that need for many, making tiny loans:
- to a woman to buy a sewing machine for financial independence
- to a father to buy a goat to support and help feed his family
- to a young man to buy a bicycle to deliver groceries for income
The World Council of Credit Unions, working with credit unions around the globe, helps to build financial stability, one sewing machine, one goat, one bicycle at a time. Let’s celebrate all the great work that credit unions do on International Credit Union Day with them today!
