Theresa Trimble, our President & CEO, is often asked “why should I bank at your credit union instead of one of the big banks?”
She always explains how credit unions exist to serve their members—we don’t have stockholders demanding a return on their investment. Because we focus on our members’ needs, we charge low, and often no, fees. Our checking account has always been, and always will be, free. It’s that simple!
When Theresa gets that question, she can quote the president of Chase Bank, the largest consumer bank in the country. They recently made an announcement that shook the banking world. The country’s largest bank just warned its 86 million customers that if Chase can’t charge high fees, they will start charging for checking accounts.
Are they just trying to pressure the Congress? Maybe. But take them at their word. At the big banks, you are a cost, not a customer, and certainly not a member-owner. Don’t be at the mercy of the big banks. Bank with your local credit union instead!
