Be on the lookout for scammers who text, email, or call you threatening to turn off your heat, electricity, or water service unless you send them money immediately. These are utility non-payment scams that are NOT REAL and are trying to use scare tactics to get you to give them money.
These scammers often demand money by Zelle® or Venmo, but they could request any type of payment. Do not believe them or fall for their scare tactics! Be sure to verify the request. Go directly to the actual website of your utility company or call your utility company directly to check your balance. Do not use any number or website you get in a text, email, or phone call, as this is most likely a scam.
Never let someone try to scare you into acting quickly! That’s their play and way to get you to pay them before you realize it’s a scam. Legitimate companies will not act in this manner. Stay safe and verify information before you act!
