If this past year has taught us anything, it is that tomorrow is never promised. We must live each day to the fullest and protect our loved ones if something should happen to us. We must think of the future in clear-eyed terms, and not put off what needs to be done.
It is extremely important to plan for the unexpected by putting these two things into place. The minimum financial planning items you should handle now are:
- Add a Beneficiary to Your Credit Union Account: If your account is not joint, you should designate someone (or more than one person) to receive the balance on your account(s) if you pass away. You can contact us at 866-385-9281 or at help@frbfcu.org to designate a beneficiary. It is so simple and so easy! It is so sad when people pass away and their money just sits in an account until a court decides who gets it. Don’t let that happen, contact us designate a beneficiary today.
- Create a Will: CREATE A WILL. Please, please, please do not put this off! No matter how young or health or busy you are, do not put off making a will. It is extremely important! Talk to a lawyer or go online and find a legal template for your state. You can keep it as simple or as complex as you want, but PLEASE create a will.
We hope this blog post makes you take a few minutes to plan for the unexpected and help plan for and protect your loved ones.
